Innovative designs and sustainable strategies on show at WNDC offices

In its reception area, WNDC has documents and designs for two of its projects for the public to view. The display for the former British Timken Works invites formal comments whilst the iHub designs illustrate initial concepts prior to its consultation period.

In June, the Consarc architect practice was announced as the winner of a competition to design the new Daventry iHub, a building which will contain innovation units for business at the cutting edge of sustainable construction. The detailed model and design boards that illustrate Consarc’s iHub vision have now moved from the offices of Daventry District Council to WNDC for a public exhibition in Northampton. The innovative concept will now move in to its planning phase and construction of the £8 million building will begin early in 2009.

Also available for the public to view are the boards detailing the Design Code and Energy and Sustainability Strategy for the former British Timken Works. The plans, also being exhibited at Duston Library and Community Centre, showcase the design guide and environmental standards for the proposed employment developments on the site.

John Weir, WNDC’s Interim Chairman, said:
“The iHub concepts are very impressive and unique. When constructed the iHub will focus on, and be a leading example of, sustainability and energy efficiency. It is due to environmental priorities and responsibilities that WNDC are committed to working hard with developers on sites like the Former British Timken Works, ensuring that robust design principals are adhered to.”
