The iHub building developments
The site next to Eastern Way in Daventry is known as
number '4A' and became available following the reduction
of a roundabout, which was funded and managed by WNDC.
Europe’s top architects were challenged to create a building
that embodies the environmental credentials of the iNet. The
sustainable construction centre, the iHub, will be designed and
constructed to achieve an excellent rating and the operation is
also backed by five of the region’s universities.
London based architect practice, Consarc, were announced as the
winners of the iHub Design Competition on 13 June, following
initial submissions from seventy others. Consarc’s iHub vision will
now progress from an innovative concept in to its planning phase,
including consultation, and construction of the £8 million building
will begin early in 2009. Up to 60 innovation units will be
utilised by researchers and businesses at the cutting edge of the
sustainable construction industry. Other features potentially
include a conference room for 200 people, exhibition spaces,
meeting rooms and additional networking space.
The Daventry iHub will also be a leading example of an
energy-efficient and sustainable building in its own right. The
iHub will be operational in 2010 and will act as a gateway building
to Daventry town centre whilst also providing new opportunities for
employment, education and partnership working within West
Northamptonshire.
