Why Northampton?
The public realm strategy, will
revitalise the centre streetscape of Northampton town centre. But
this is more than just a superficial facelift. The improvements
will make Northampton a safer and more enjoyable place to walk,
while improving public transport.
The transformation of Northampton’s
streets will be a catalyst for wider regeneration, attracting more
and better shops to locate in the town. The scheme will also
showcase the historic features of Northampton, ranging from All
Saints Church to the Market Square.
Ultimately though, it will
contribute to an urban style and identify that is unmistakeably
Northampton. A town centre that locals can be proud of, and
tourists will want to visit.
How?
WNDC has come together with
Northamptonshire County Council as well as Northampton Borough
Council to make this project happen.
By breaking down the scheme into
manageable phases, the scheme is quicker and easier to deliver.
Phase 1 is scheduled to complete in 2009, costing a total of £7m.
Of this, £6m is being injected by WNDC.
