What other developments are happening in Towcester?
South Northamptonshire Council, English Partnerships, the
Towcester Partnership and Northamptonshire County Council are
working with WNDC to create plans for regenerating the centre of
Towcester. The Moat Lane area, to the east of Watling Street, has
been specially identified by the Towcester Partnership and South
Northamptonshire Council to help transform the current
amenities.
WNDC has already provided over £2 million, has been working hard
to secure key areas of land and is supporting initial discussions
and potential designs. It is a delicate site containing listed
buildings and an ancient monument at Bury Mount, nevertheless,
sustainable communities are not just about housing. The proposed
leisure, cultural and retail facilities will generate added
vibrancy, employment opportunities and tourism to the historic
market town.
Key elements of the proposed Moat Lane
development
• A new civic building at the heart of the community
• New public spaces including a riverside walk, performance
space and access to open parkland
• A better range of shops and stores
• Improved access to Bury Mount to give emphasis to
Towcester’s rich heritage
• A high quality cultural venue and hotel accommodation
